Scots Gap Methodist Chapel

There has been a Methodist Church in the centre of the village since 1902. The original place of worship was known affectionately as ‘the tin chapel’. Fifty years later a meeting of local Methodists felt it was more than time for expansion and plans went ahead for the building of a new permanent chapel.

The present chapel was opened on 8th August 1959. All the necessary monies had been raised, grants received, and there was enough money left over for a new organ.

Fifty years later the chapel is being refurbished by installing central heating, disabled facilities, a new kitchen and buying new chairs. The chapel is easily adaptable to every occasion – sad, joyful, devotional and of an entertaining nature. Members of the fellowship hope that the wider community will make use of the new facilities in a wide variety of ways for a range of activities.

Services are held every Sunday morning at 10.30, the exception being the fourth Sunday in the month when we join in worship with members of Holy Trinity Church, Cambo, alternating between the two churches. There is an evening service at 6.30 on the first Sunday in the month. Tuesday evenings are set aside for bible study and fellowship.

‘Carols in the Mart’ now forms a regular feature as part of the Christmas celebrations in the village and attracts huge interest from far and wide.
